Manuel Velazquez (1918-2014), and began building in the 1930s, he is widely considered a world-class maker, and his guitars have been played by Andres Segovia, Julian Bream, and many others. This guitar was no 16 made in 1958. The original bill of sale states that is made with the following woods: Bank and sides in dark brown Brazilian rosewood. Front or top in German spruce; the neck in African mahogany. The fingerboard in black African ebony. Marquetry in black and white, and fitted with Lansdorfer machine heads. The present owner bought it from its original owner in 1970, and played it professionally until he stopped playing about 20 years ago. The guitar unfortunately languished in a closet– and suffered a number of cracks. The top has several repaired cracks that run from the bridge to the bottom, and one under the 1st string which extended to the rosette. The back likewise has four repaired hairline cracks. The French polish was refreshed at some point, but has been scuffed up since.
