Description

Manuel Velazquez (1918-2014), and began building in the 1930s, he is widely considered a world-class maker, and his guitars have been played by Andres Segovia, Julian Bream, and many others. This guitar was no 16 made in 1958 and made with the following woods: Bank and sides in dark brown Brazilian rosewood. Front or top in German spruce; the neck in African mahogany. The fingerboard in black African ebony. Marquetry in black and white, and fitted with Rubner machine heads. The guitar, unfortunately, languished in a closet– and suffered a number of cracks. The top has several repaired cracks that run from the bridge to the bottom, and one under the 1st string which extended to the rosette. The back likewise has four repaired hairline cracks. The French polish was refreshed at some point but has been scuffed up since. The neck and set up are perfect– and the guitar is very comfortable to play and still has all of the qualities of sound for which Velazquez remain prized. If this guitar where cosmetically perfect it would sell for twice the asking price
